January 14: A large explosion significantly damages the Cuban consulate in Montreal.
February 27: Dominican embassy siege: Guerrillas from M-19 take diplomats hostage at the Dominican embassy in Bogotá, Colombia. After 61 days, all are released on April 27.
March 15: armed members of FALN raided the campaign headquarters of President Jimmy Carter in Chicago and the campaign headquarters of George H. W. Bush in New York City. Seven people in Chicago and ten people in New York were tied up as the offices were vandalized before the FALN members fled. A few days later, Carter delegates in Chicago received threatening letters from FALN.
March 24: Archbishop Óscar Romero assassinated by death squads in El Salvador.
April 7: five Palestinian terrorists from the Iraqi-backed Arab Liberation Front penetrated kibbutz Misgav Am in Israel during night time and entered the nursery. They killed the kibbutz secretary and an infant boy. They held the rest of the children hostage, demanding the release of about 50 terrorists held in Israeli prisons. The first raid of an IDF infantry unit was unsuccessful, but a second attempt, a few hours later, succeeded, and all the terrorists were killed. Two kibbutz members and one soldier were killed, four children and 11 soldiers were injured.
April 30: DRMLA start the Iranian Embassy Siege in London.
June 3: A bomb destroys most of the exhibits in the Statue of Liberty story room. No one is arrested, but Croatian separatists are suspected.
July 27: A member of the Abu Nidal Organization throws two hand grenades into a group of Jewish schoolchildren waiting for a bus stop in Antwerp, Belgium, killing one and wounding twenty. Said Al Nasr was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
August 2: Strage di Bologna: A bomb attack by the terrorists of the far-right group Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari, at the railway station in Bologna, Italy, kills 85 people and wounds more than 200.
September 26: A bomb at the Oktoberfest fairgrounds in Theresienwiese, Munich, Germany kills 12, including the bomber Gundolf Kohler, a member of the neo-Nazi Military Sport Group Hoffman, and injures 213.
October 3: A motorcycle bomb kills four people and injures dozens at the rue Copernic synagogue in Paris, France.[2] Authorities blamed the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
